INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT OUR FAMILY

Louis is only a quarter English. Two of his grandparents are Irish, one is Indian and one is English.

Rob’s great grandfather was a master carpenter who helped build the Titanic in Belfast.

Ayesha’s father was almost swiped by a crocodile when he stood by a river as a small child in India.

We’re a pretty normal set of new parents trying to cope with the madness of both working full time and having an energetic baby. We try not to get too uptight about child-rearing though that’s not always easy when he takes turns at dive bombing each of us when he’s demanded entry into our bed at five in the morning. The pre-Louis weekends of reading newspapers and going to the theatre seem a world away, but we love the adventure of being responsible for such a curious and beguiling little primate.

Our favourite photograph from the session

There are so many great ones to chose from – but if we have to make a collective decision then we love the one where Ayesha is fanning Louis with a muslin – something that he finds hilarious.   We also like the shot of him in his cot looking pensive with ‘The Man that knew too much’ on the film poster behind him.  We don’t know if that was one of Agata’s intentional jokes, but it is typical of her sharp eye for the funny combination.   There are others where he just looks beautiful, but we won’t bore everyone else with our parental swooning.

WHY ARE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Time is so fleeting and already Louis looks completely different in these photos, taken five months ago.  So we like the thought of him (and if we are still around, us) being able to look back at these in thirty or forty years.  But they’re also just lovely to have.  They capture the spirit of our family in a way that thousands of other photos that we have taken don’t because we wouldn’t normally have someone in the room with us taking photos during a regular Saturday lunchtime.

Which picture from our session best portrays you as a family?

We both like the one with us both holding on to Louis’s yoghurt to feed him with one arm each because it symbolises the joint parental project.  It also shows him looking pleased to be the centre of attention between us both, which of course he is!

What is your funny family memory?

One funny memory that comes to mind is when Louis was much younger and we were going out one weekend. We put him in the car seat, I got into the car, switched on the ignition and turned around to reverse out of the parking space. I got a shock as I saw Louis’s grinning face peering out from between the two front seats. He was standing up triumphantly bouncing up and down. We had both assumed the other one had fastened his seatbelt.

Which picture from the session best reflects your child’s character at the time?

Quite a few of them show him grinning and wriggling – that pretty much sums up his character – happy and unable to stay still for more than two seconds.
